Where the Flame Was Never Extinguished

The Redmond Return to Loftus Hall Loftus Hall under moonlight “More Irish than the Irish themselves.”

These words carved into stone at Loftus Hall speak not only of a family—but of a fire that would not be snuffed out.

For nearly 600 years, the Redmonds held strong on the wild edge of Ireland, their home standing sentinel over the graveyard of a thousand ships. From the battlements of Redmond Hall—now known as Loftus Hall—they lit great bonfires to guide sailors through treacherous waters, defending kin and coastline alike.

But the tides of time brought storms fiercer than wind or wave.

In 1642, as Cromwell’s forces swept across the land, the Redmond family did not yield. They stood with sword and spirit against overwhelming might. The siege was brutal, and though the Hall was eventually taken and renamed, the story of their courage could not be erased.

That story, centuries later, would ignite once more.

In 2017, during a windswept visit to Loftus Hall, Cecelia Redmond—descendant, traveler, storyteller—stood in the shadow of that fortress and felt the hum of ancestry in her bones. A chance meeting with Aidan Quigley, then custodian of the Hall, sparked a shared vision:

“What if the Redmonds returned?”

Not to reclaim land, but to reclaim legacy. To gather from across oceans and generations. To light fires again—not to warn ships, but to rekindle memory.

In 2019, over 25 Redmond families answered that call, returning to Loftus Hall during Beltane—the ancient festival of fire—to honor Raymond le Gros’s landing at Baginbun, May 1st, 1170. Exactly 849 years later.

And now, the story continues.

Redmond Heritage Press was born from this spark—to preserve the stories of those who came before, and those who carry the name now. Our first project, We Are Redmond, gathers voices from every branch of the tree: tales of immigration, survival, love, resistance, and legacy.

We believe that through the gathering of stories, the testing of DNA, and the honoring of history, we will build one of the most detailed family records in the world—and write our name in history once more.

Redmond family coat of arms

Because Redmonds don’t vanish into time.

They return.
They remember.
They rise.
